MODULE TITLE: Specialist Production

Specialist Production Proposal: Vince Chapple

Outline summary of your Specialist Production

What are you going to create and how does it sit into the cultural context of current and/or past creative practices? What ideas or concepts are you engaging with?

I wish to create a short documentary film and photo collection. This complements my ongoing interest in documentary work, my wish to pursue more experience in film making and my interest to reveal lives that live outside “normal” social practices.
Areas of research

What texts, context and theories are you going to/have you engaged with in researching your production? Do you need to research specific skills, or techniques?

Research will included online information, books and hopefully personal interviews about the role of witchcraft in the UK, past and present, and the public conceptions surrounding paganism, wiccan and witchcraft.

Skills required include ongoing training with audio dubbing and sound recording.

Use of research

How are you going to make use of this research?

I expect my research to help me choreograph an overall concept for my documentary film and help me define the tone I wish to present. Research will also hopefully lead to more contacts involved with witchcraft so that I can present a balanced, unbiased view of this practice.
Justification/Purpose

What is your aim in producing this work?

I aim to further my technical skills, gain better understanding of the style of film maker I am becoming and educate the public on a little understood life style.

Ethical Issues

Will your production raise any ethical issues? For example will you need to get

The subject nature of my work may be offensive to the sensibilities of those who practice a mainstream religion. My understanding is that witches do not participate in animal sacrifices and do not seek to harm others. I will address any ethical concerns when and if they occur.
Audiences

Who is the target audience for your work?

The adult public is my target.
Exhibition/Distribution

How is your work going to reach its audience/s are you going to use a variety of platforms to gain an audience for your work? Are you planning to enter it for any specific festivals or competitions?

I hope to find a venue to exhibit my film as well as having it linked to my own and my witches’ web sites.

I am keen to enter my work in any appropriate competitions or festivals. I shall be researching into them as the project progresses.
